As you may know blu ray discs have a theoritical limit of 200 GB on 8 layers, on CES 2007 they annonced that it would go up to 250 GB on 10 layers,my question is that when these 8 and 10 layer disks arrive in the future will older blu ray player be able to read them?sorry I posted this in a/v discussion but got no answerwill 8 and 10 layer Blu ray disks be abl ...
could the same be said about older dvd playerswill 8 and 10 layer Blu ray disks be abl ...
could the same be said about older dvd players
im not sure, but people buy new dvd players frequently
You shouldn't ask such a question here, you will only get answers such as:Cows: Of course. Blu-Ray is awesome.Lemmings: Of course not. Blu-Ray sucks ass.Sheep: Get DVDs instead, foo !
NoBut the ps3 should because of it's firmware updates
Only the PS3 because of firmware updates. I read that somewhere :S
NoBut the ps3 should because of it's firmware updates
The physical lens might not actually be up to the job of that...
By the time they actually widely use blu-ray disks of that size, blu-ray players should be significantly cheaper.

Stand Alone blu-ray player owners will be getting the shaft once BD 2.0 is released. They will be forced to upgrade to a new player since there is no way to update players firmware. Pretty smart way for Sony and Co. to force you to buy a PS3 rather than a stand alone.
get dvds instead foo !
Not on all blu ray players, but players such as the ps3 and ones able to have firmware updates the newer discs will play on.
The short answer is, no.
The PS3 couldn't handle it.
The PS3 couldn't handle it.
how do you know? I dont think anyone in this thread is qualified enough to answer the question

Some of the stand alone players do have the ability to be upgraded with firmware, but yes quite a few people are going to be screwed.

All you have to do is look at the PS3 specs and point out why PS3 games needs hdd installs because of blu ray.

The PS3 couldn't handle it.
how do you know? I dont think anyone in this thread is qualified enough to answer the question
I would probably be the closest, as Im blu ray certified through Dell. :)In theory the ps3 should be able to read it. It depends on how the bda is going about putting that many layers onto one disc. Im sure they compensated for this.
For proof btw. Its kind of hard to tell my blu ray pin and my Inspiron Certified pin.
did DVD also have this problem?
