Why can't we all just get along?

I know many people such as myself just want to enjoy as much as games as we can no matter what the cost. I know I must have spent over $2500 on this generation alone ($1250 for the consoles alone at launch. $450 for an elite because I didnt want another MS refurb that would break down on me again. The rest on games)How great would it be to have a one console future? Hell.. Id pay as much as $800 for one console if it played all the games. MS, Sony and Nintendo probably wont do it, but its worth to dream :(Some developers have already called for a one console future (Dennis Dyack and David Jaffe), now gamers, lets hear YOUR voice. Why can't we all just get along?
but then there would be no competition:(Why can't we all just get along?
competition drives quality. a unified platform creates a lackluster commitment to quality (look at EA and the Madden franchise if you want proof). i hate fanboy ramblings as much as anyone, but competition rewards the consumer. anything else rewards the big evil corporations. and yeah, that even includes nintendo.
No. If there was only one console, there would be no competition, and no incentive for whatever company that owns it to best anyone (seeing as there ISN'T anyone).
but then there would be no competition:(
Between the console makers no.But between the devs, the competition should grow. There will only be one system spec, so games that are **** compared to the others cant be blamed on the system. Itll just make the devs look bad.
Console wars was good for when the video game industry started but if it continues like this it will evenutally hurt the industry. If the industry ever wants to mature it will have to become more mainstream and become less confusing for the consumer.
Well look at the Madden series for example. EA owns the NFL liscense as we all know. When 2K was able to make NFL football games it pushed EA to make a good polished product because 2K was making quality games. And the Madden series has lacked any real change or enhancements from year to year. The past few seasons Madden has been an OK game. They are playing it safe because they know that they will make money. Do we want 1 OK system? Without competition, companies dont have to try new things since they are the only ones releasing the product.
One console would signal the end of System Wars
here would be no competition, so there would be less good games. Plus it will never happen, all the companies want to win and take all the money. No one wants to share. It would be good and bad. But competition is great, so I say keep system wars going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody voting ''yes'' obviously has no understanding of a ''monopoly'' and its implications.

And what about the quality and price of the hardware? You might end up paying just as much for one console and the games might be worse since many devs will realize that their games won't sell on this ''mega console''.
but then there would be no competition:(
Bingo. This is bad for us consumers. ;)

Hardware competition doesn't just benefit the console market, but also the software and developer market. And all that, in turn, benefits the consumer.

EA still competes in the sotware market, not hardware market. Maybe a one-console solution would mean greater competition between sotware companies rather than a split competition model over several consoles. The closest thing that already exists is the PC, (if you try to see it as a self contained platform, separate from consoles), you'll see that competition still thrives between software companies and thus better products. If anything standards are higher on the PC.
Competision is good for the industry if there was never competision we would still be playing on the 8 bit orginal nintendo because nintendo would of never had a reason to make a new console

Only having one console would probably destroy most 3rd-party games. Things like Halo, MGS and Mario would be way more popular and easier to get. Plus, if there was only one console and for some reason it looked really retarted, you wouldn't be able to buy something else, and what if it had a huge hardware failure rate?

but then there would be no competition:(
Between the console makers no.But between the devs, the competition should grow. MGS vs Splinter Cell! they would really need to bring their A game.using Madden as an example is terrible, cause it would be the only NFL football game on the market for one system, but let a few more developers in on the fun, and they would have to step it up.
Monopoly is not a good thing.
One console would signal the end of System Wars
not really cause system wars should really be about the games in the first place, we waste so much damn time in here, arguing about who has the smaller power brick, or which system has the best controller, that we don't talk about what really makes a system better, GAMES! so with one unified system it would probably turn into a which game is better war, everyone will be loyal to a certain series or developer. trust me, we will have many things to disagree about.
